So, you showed up. Fantastic. Welcome to the Jan2016 Five Minute Fiction Challenge! Before we get underway, let's just give you an idea of the month ahead.
Each weekday I will post a new prompt. Some of these will give instructions of what you are aiming to achieve with your piece, and some will be just a word, or a few, to inspire you to do whatever you want with them. The aim of the game is creativity, not rules, so feel free to push the boundaries.
Unlike the intense experience of NanoWriMo, FMF takes a break at the weekend so that you can either have a life, or catch up on prompts you missed during the week -whatever fits your schedule. And, of course, the daily word count is not as demanding. You could write as little as 150 words and have a story. Even six! See, now you know there's no excuses.
To get the best out of this experience, I recommend you attempt every prompt and don't shy away from the ones that phase you - by pushing yourself to try these things, you will be opened up to a whole new side of writing, and your talents, that you never knew before. Even the prompts that are harder than extracting a tooth - there's always something to learn about your writing skills.
In week four the prompts take a slightly different shape. You will be asked to write each of your stories centred on one of your characters. I won't elaborate any further for now - all will be revealed at the time.
I hope you have been able to find a group, or a writing partner, with whom you can share your writing as this makes the participation all the more fun.
So, shall we get started?
#5minfic0116 Prompt #1
Begin a story by describing a character, but without using their -- or any other character's -- facial expressions (no frowning, smiling, looking, glaring, etc.)
Good Luck - see you back here in the morning!
Charlie.
